I made hash marks on the post of my swift, marking where the bottom lever needs to be so that I can make either a 1 yard, 1.5 yard, or 2 yard skein:
I take the yarn from the spinning wheel:
And wrap it on the swift:
I tied the skein in three spots with a separate strand of yarn so that when I take if off the swift it stays as a skein.

What a great idea to make the hash marks on my swift. Never thought of that.
I meant to comment on your plying post. What I do is fill both single bobbins (ending up with 2 bobbins that are approx 100g), then ply onto a 3rd bobbin, cutting the singles off when I fill the plied bobbin. If I don't have a 4th empty bobbin to continue on, I make the one plied skein right away to empty the plying bobbin so that I can ply the second 100g.
That's a great idea about the bobbins/plying. I only have 3 bobbins, so I have to go to the next step right away. But there is no reason I couldn't ply it to full, make my skein, then ply another bobbin worth.
