Cria Pictures

Our first cria of 2011, and Tehya's first cria ever:

The cria is definitely a female. We believe she is rose grey. It's hard to tell grey on a newborn, she could be a fading fawn. But she has the face of a tuxedo grey, and there are grey fibers on her legs, more so than even Challenger had at birth and he is now clearly grey. Only time will tell for sure though.

She is the smallest of any cria ever born on our farm. She weighed in at 13.4 pounds. I believe average cria newborn weight it closer to 15 pounds. Our smallest prior to her was Shelby who was 14. Tehya had been our second smallest at 15. Even though she's smaller than we are used to, she is full term, with teeth erupted. She appears healthy and perfect.

All the moms are quite protective of this new baby, I had a hard time getting close enough to get a picture:

She's in there, between the moms:

She is doing well, walking, eating, and sleeping:

As you can see from these pictures, our female girls have been shorn. We did that on Monday (yesterday). I will write about that in a future post. I just had to get these newborn cria pictures up as soon as possible!
